Use of PDA, Tablet in Household Surveys Grenada


This is a memory recall to inform and update public awareness regarding the use of technology devices for data collection in Grenada.
1. The first attemp to use any such devices was made by the Central Statistical Division, Ministry of Finance during the OECS/ILO labour force pilot survey of 2010.
Device running the Windows mobile 6.1 platform was funded by UNECLAR under the directorship of Mr. Halim Brizan, CSO, Grenada
These devices supported the CS Pro Software (mobile versions)
The survey instrument was developed by Mr. Carlos Ellis - a well establish consultant and programmer for CSPRO

Outcome:
Field workers thought that the screen size was quite a challenge. However,the use of skip patterns was a wonderful and welcomed ideas in the field.
Paper forms was used to complete the collection of the data.


2. During the Same Period Sept. 2010- The Ministry of Health ran the STEPs survey and utilised the same type of devices.

Outcome:
Full utilisation of the devices to collect data.


4. Men @ Risk November 2011
It is rumored that the Men AT Risk survey for Grenada will be using tablet (ipad) devices to conduct the field work.
