System Integration for small countries.

So you have been discussion your IT project, highly data driven system or systems where you need to somehow integrate two or three functional departments in some dynamic way.
.... Oh there is always ....
And someone said what's about SOAP technologies..

There are currently two schools of thought in developing web services: the traditional, standards-based approach (SOAP) and conceptually simpler and the trendier new kid on the block (REST). The decision between the two will be your first choice in designing a web service, so it is important to understand the pros and cons of the two. It is also important, in the sometimes heated debate between the two philosophies, to separate reality from rhetoric. .... from http://www.ajaxonomy.com/2008/xml/web-services-part-1-soap-vs-rest

It is a great surprise that those who are suppose to be heading technological development projects, have no idea of or even heard about "Web Service/Web API" , SOAP or REST for system integration.

More discussions about having all systems in one large data center - and having all database platforms make the thought process even worst, when it comes form the advice of the authority.

So for those who have such projects --- please consider you research into the old technologies that are both open and liberated, created for open sharing -and even future proof for the mobile environment.
