In the second year of his reign, Nebuchadnezzar had dreams; his mind was troubled and he could not sleep. 2 So the king summoned the magicians, enchanters, sorcerers and astrologers[a] to tell him what he had dreamed. When they came in and stood before the king, 3 he said to them, “I have had a dream that troubles me and I want to know what it means.[b]”.... Daniel 2
the above is from Daniel 2: Notice when he had the dreams - in the 2nd year of his reign. I can only imagine, (this is my bias) that Daniel and his friend may have been in school. ( remember Daniel 1 :17) shows that they spend 3 year in the study of the literature of the place.
Neither- the- less, the King calls all his supporters, wise and powerful men, and makes the most unheard of request. Which goes like this:
1. Listen all you fellows, I know for a fact that i had a dream. And this was not me riding some horse going to battle - it was a troubling dream., Look at verse 3 of Daniel 2.
2. Not tell me what the dream means. ( of course this was the most unheard of request). You just said to us that you had a dream -??????? and then tell you what it means.
Ok, King, just do us the grand usual favor, tell us the dream and we will ( as usual) get all the background info and data, use our best computers, and do some calculation, since out astrologers are here, they will study the new moon, maybe the shifting of some start, and we sure to give you a full meaning of the dream
Just hold it right there you men. I am ready to kill each one of you if you don't TELL ME the dream and what it means.
Now all faces are "RED" because truly you are asking these men to not just read your mind - but read your mind to find something that isn't even in your head.( because you, yourself) cant even remember the dream.
So we red Daniel 2:12 where the king actually made the decree to kill:
"12 This made the king so angry and furious that he ordered the execution of all the wise men of Babylon. 13 So the decree was issued to put the wise men to death, and men were sent to look for Daniel and his friends to put them to death."
Word has not come to Daniel and his fellow until the point of the death.
Daniel gets a little time to pray.
God of course know that this is how he wants to get his will out - NOT JUST TO BABYLON, but to the whole human race who is reading the story in the bible.
17 Then Daniel went to his house, and made the thing known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions:
God's will is done - praise to God.
The dream is revealed - the meaning is given, the king listens to the whole story and this is what happens:
46 Then the king Nebuchadnezzar fell upon his face, and worshipped Daniel, and commanded that they should offer an oblation and sweet odours unto him.
47 The king answered unto Daniel, and said, Of a truth it is, that your God is a God of gods, and a Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, seeing thou couldest reveal this secret.
Notice it is the words of king Nebuchadnezzar when he says that God is a God of gods. It is not Daniel speaking here.... This goes to show that direct conviction came to his king in this whole experience.
The King dome was save - Daniel and his friend are now employed in high estate of the nation.
BUT DO YOU THINK THIS KING GOT THE MESSAGE.
