6000 is a mile away

Over the past 10 year, a lot of excitement has been generated by the Internet, WWW and technology.
Rapid development and overnight release of the next gadget, web tool or toy, has made the new generation anxious about everything.
The bible on the other hand warns about being anxious, Philippians 4:6 tell us "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God"

I don't want to be sounding as some mad person writing this article, but if this is what it takes, then let it be.

I am a Grenadian, and blessed to be born in the beautiful island AKA "ISLE of SPICE".

However, having traveled the Caribbean countries I measure the progress of development - and my yead stick/unit is called technology.

In 2008 I recall a visit to Barbados, I happened to stay at a very small apartment guest house with 3 of my colleagues from the office. The area was pretty the tourist belt - Hastings area - and here we were making a clear comparison of this area to our Grand Anse, Grenada.

While the sand on the beach was coral white, the sea was rough and full of stones/rocks. In Grenada we have better, we have no rocks or stones in the lovely Grand Anse.
We continued to talk about the great amount of "Concrete" and "Heat" that the area generated on the sunny days. Realizing that Grenada too was hot, but you can always get a cool shady under a tree.
We concluded that Grenada was a better tourist destination if you were looking to relax and just watch a beautiful picture.

Now that was 4 years ago. The Iphone was already launched, and the ipod was a number 1 seller. Infact, people who had MP3 players called them ipod.
Today the IPhone has lost it luster and shine to the mighty Galaxy and HTC Windows Mobile 8X.

And I am back in Barbados- leaving just a few feet from that little guest house. 4 years, what did i say  or learn after 4 year.

Lessons:
1. You can't beat the company/organisation/Country who has the money (It is not about your technology) it is all about who has the money.
Just take a look at it all, Apple has the money so they can rule the market for the past 4 year with Iphone, they are not moving away from this product to the iPad and iPad mini. So too Barbados has just walked away the little "so call" natural destinations in the tourism sector.  The same beach who was rocky and rough 4 years ago, still rough and stony, is not a sign to see.
They have paved a very lovely boardwalk along this beach, very well conceptualized and crafted sometime in Jan 2012.

This new development was so well organised that I just has to say "YEP" I wish i could be here everyday!

2. Nice technology plays for keeps and have manners. While android is great because it open, it lacks manners. Apple has been so consistent with their software parts, that  someone migrating from the 4 year old device can gracefully follow their natural learning curves into the new era.
Additionally, the IPod, Iphone user does not have to fight to learn the interface of the iPAD and iPAD mini. It is the same interface, just larger.
So to Barbados has been playing the game of manners. I can't recall how this happen, but somehow, somewhere, the biggest resource of Grenada has lost it manners. People in my country forget that "Manners maketh man". You have to make it a duty to look persons in the eyes for them to say hello or good day to you.
It pays to sustain your manners in technology or the tourism market.

3. The third lesson  I learn may already be happening in Grenada, but since I don't visit hotels back home very often, then I have to say that this one came from Barbados, for me at least.
The of the Country is #1
The Hotels somewhere between 2 and 3
The sites 4 and 5

The local craft and shops falls somewhere at 100 - not in Barbados,
it seem that the local craft falls somewhere in the hotels - yes,
I was invited to what is called the regular Tuesday night out at the hotel that i stayed at, and it was a pleasant evening cocktail event. Not because the drinks was free - in fact - i had no drinks. The great event was the small display of local art and craft booths and Jewelry outlets.
In the little space, right by the bar, 8 little booths, each with a table and their items under nice light radiating all the way. What a concept. The locals has new exposure to markets.
While I did not buy anything - thing are too expensive in Barbados - I was impressed enough to really want to buy - if i had the money.
It was at that point that i realize - if you think you want to win this war along - then you will only be wasting your amo.
Grenada - we all have to play this game Tourism will not help, until we work nicely together.

JUST AS WINDOWS 8 PHONE, WINDOWS RT and WINDOWS 8 and Windows servers does.

imi chitterman is not a write neither a technologies. He just want to promote windows phone 8 devices.
