AN
APPEAL FOR HFLE TEACHER TO APPLY FOR DIPLOMA COURSE
St.
George’s Grenada, Friday 22nd February, 2013, MOEPRU – An appeal is being made for at least one
teacher at every school across the island to apply for entry into the Health
and Family Life Education Diploma Course, being offered by the University of
the West Indies.
Semester 2 of the HFLE Diploma Course had
to be cancelled and deferred to August
of year 2013-2014 because of low enrollment.
As a result, the Ministry is encouraging
at least one teacher on every staff to apply for entry into the programme, as the
experience will enhance the applicants’ personal development, capability and
effectiveness in delivering the Health and Family Life Education and the Social
and Life Skills Curricular, these being areas taught throughout the school
system.
Permanent Secretary with responsibility
for Education Eunice Sandy-Davis notes “the Ministry of Education and Human
Resource Development recognizes Health and Family Life Education (HFLE) as an
important subject on the schools’ curriculum. Its life-skills focus is in
harmony with the Ministry’s initiative of refocusing the schools’ curriculum
and placing emphasis on the importance of life skills and values”.
Instructors are also reminded that
the teaching of HFLE is a compulsory component of the Child Friendly Schools
Initiative and as a result, teachers of the pilot schools of the Child Friendly
School Initiative are especially encouraged to apply. HFLE Subject Leaders and teachers at the
secondary level are also encouraged to apply for this academic programme.
Interested persons are advised that they
can re-apply for the course for Semester 1, (August), 2013. Applicants should
visit the link, http://apply.open.uwi.edu.
to apply online and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the
application process. Applicants are also required to have an email
account to begin the process.
Additional information can be accessed by
speaking with Mrs. Claudia Halley, UWI Open Campus, St. George’s, on telephone
No. 440-2451.
Officials of the Ministry anticipate that
academic pursuit in this area will both build teacher capacity and
effectiveness in the delivery of both the Health and Family Life Education and
Social and Life Skills curricula.
