Teachers Lead by Learning - with Tablets

We are on the verge of a big leap from a paper-based educational system to one that is mixed with digital devices.
In developed economies we have been reading about ipads in the classrooms. Some countries have gone to laptops per child and such like.
Teachers are urged to get on board the digital bandwagon in Grenada. Teachers need to purchase Android devices and learn these systems; afterall, these are the devices that our children are using to play games, browse the web and do other stuff.
Teachers are often afraid to take a step in this direction, largely because these devices are costly.

This article provides some very useful tips on sourcing an Android Tablet.
1. Buy a well known brand - Samsung, Asus, Archos, Coby, Google(Nexus), Motorola, Toshiba and Acer are some well established brands on the android platform.
2. Ensure you make a purchase of a case to hold your tablet and a protector screen to prevent scratch.
3. Android tablets that are pure android are quite often the best, over tablets where major modifications are made to the software. While the Kindle Fire is based on an android OS, it has it own interface, which makes it difficult to do much of the normal Android configurations. So stick to Pure Android.

Pricing:
Tablets can go from 180 USD and up the road even to the 1300 USD level (Panasonic Tough Book)
If you are getting a tablet where children will be a major player in its usage, I strongly advise the purchase of the Toshiba Thrive; Still Pricey for an old model of Tablets but it takes the beating and stands up strong.
If you are looking for a professional looking, slim device with great battery and screen display, go for the all expensive Samsung or Asus Transform Prime.

Looking for something that is not so classy, go for the Archos or the Asus tablets.

A tablet on Amazon.com selling for 250 USD will take cost of ownership to 325.00 USD after shipping and local port charges.
Teachers can take advantage of duty free concessions for these devices under the agreement of 1 device per use in Grenada
